My senior thesis explored how to create gardening space for apartment dwellers who live in densely populated zones.

I designed and built three different systems that created garden beds outside windows; a prefabricated steel system; a DIY $20 system; and a system that utilized reusable sopping bags.
All three window gardens utilized a bar inside the window to stabilize the structure. Sturdy mountaineering straps attached the platform or containers while still allowing the window to close.

My elegant steel structure design and the DIY wood design both exploit a strong base to support container gardens.
I set up a series of test gardens to experiment with different types of hanging container gardens. This allowed me to experience first hand which vegetables did best growing close together in a small amount of soil. These tests also allowed me to measure the containers changing weight. I was able to harvest carrots, radishes, Swiss chard, basil, and lettuce.
